I bought this book 2 years ago and started reading it then, but haven’t finished it until now. No, not the kind of book that is too complicated, or the language is too hard. The topic is also really interesting and really ME. This book has so many series – that are the inspiration of my life motto:
Menulis itu berbagi, mari menulis kebaikan // Writing is sharing, so let’s share kindness.
The main takeaway I got from the book series is about kindness, but in this particular book, which I’ve had for 2 years, it is about gratitude.
It’s the Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Power of Gratitude.

Honestly, life has been such a roller coaster – but who doesn’t feel like that, right? If we’re talking about happiness, it would be impossible without feeling gratitude in life. And sometimes, I’ve been taking the blessings I’ve gotten for granted.
The power of gratitude is magnificent, and the reason I don’t want to rush finishing this book is that I get to feel the strength and hope that sometimes get lost in me. The stories in this book fill me with such positive thoughts and feelings about both simple things in life and even major life experiences. I open this book when I need it, and in the past 2 years, I’m now in the 3/4 of the book.
Life can be too overwhelming sometimes, making it hard for us to actually give thanks for what we have. I ended up just being sad about what I don’t have – forget about giving thanks for things that I have in my life. Last year was the year of jubilee, the year of hope. I learnt a lot and was reminded about living with hope.
Practising Gratitude
At night, when I write my journal, I will also write down things I’m grateful for for the day. On some days, it might be redundant, but in those little moments in life, through the power of gratitude, I get to live my life a little bit better. With gratitude, I am now seeing every new day as an opportunity, whilst living away from gratefulness and hope just bring despair and sadness in my heart.
I want to share what I am grateful for today:
- I’m grateful that I get to eat Bakwan Kapasari after such a long time! Hihihi, It’s been years since the last time I ate it. After work, I walked and ate it for dinner and I’m grateful for that!
- I’m also grateful that I get to finish the K-drama that I’ve been meaning to watch since last week! (the title is My Royal Nemesis)
- While writing this blog, I am also reminded that I’m grateful that I got the book at a discounted price!
- I’m grateful that my bias in SEVENTEEN, Jeonghan, is back from his military duty!
- I also enjoyed my walk after work, and was thankful that I was safe during the whole 20-minute walk when it was about to get dark.
- I’m also grateful for my friends who are willing to help me win a giveaway on instagram hahaha
I believe as much as big moments in life are what shape our lives, the little things like these are the ones that light up our hearts and fill them with hope and happiness.
P.S. The photo for the feature image was taken after I got out of the office. It’s beautiful, right? – That’s also something to be grateful for. 💜
