Journaling Session: A Guide to Write Your Own Love Letter

Last Saturday I joined a journaling session. That was my second journaling session this year with mengenaldiri.id! My first encounter with them was back in 2021. I was losing myself and you know, with the pandemic and everything it was hard to navigate life and myself – internally. I like keeping journal to begin with – used to called it diary tho! haha but as I get older and learn more about more ways to journal, it really helps me to wind down and just basically be sane in adulting world. Hahaha.

Journaling Session with MengenalDiri.id

The session was guided by the founder herself- Salma Kyana. Align with the theme, she gave us some key points about being enough with ourselves and to change it from within. And since this is not just a regular webinar, it’s a journaling one. We had to answer some questions and also a guided meditation as well. Aside from the fact that I like to spend time to actually journal, I really like the meditation part of the session!

I felt a little emotional answering one of the question about people that have reminded me what love feels like and why I am grateful for them. We often overlook people that support us and always be there for us.

And.. at the end of the session, I have a letter for myself! – Mainly that, I am grateful for myself and it’s okay to make mistakes.

Lesson Learned: Remembering, Feeling, and Claiming My Worth

The important lesson I realised on the session was that it is hard for me to accept that progress is dynamic that even a setback is actually part of the progress. I just have to constantly remind myself that I am where I am supposed to be right now. But well, it is easier said than done, right? hahaha

On one of the questions where I had to draw and describe my current self vs me 5 years ago in 2020, I realised that we both have different positive and negative aspects. I guess that’s what life is gonna be(?) It is a never-ending learning curve and we don’t seek perfection, we just… going.

The Value of Showing Up

I like helping others and be there when they need help but I realised that often time I let myself down. The act of showing up for myself is as simple as cooking a good healthy meal and eating in reasonable hours (this is the first thing that comes to mind since I had my GERD situation yesterday – it was not a pleasant experience🤢). Showing up by writing this blog although that little shadow in my mind telling me that this is oversharing. Ha! I don’t care. I like sharing my stories. ☺️☺️

Showing up means accepting but still working to improve myself. Showing up means karaoke-ing after work.
Showing up means putting on lotion after bath.
Showing up means reading a book on Saturday morning.
Showing up means doing art just because..
Showing up means signing up for the next journaling session! Hahaha this journaling community has helped me going through life before, and I think it’s like a companion at this point.

Anyway, thank you mengenaldiri for the session!

And please share what are the ‘showing up’ in your version?
