To be present
On the first day, I chose this 10-minute meditation before starting my working hour. No particular reason, it’s just that I was looking for a short and simple one to keep me in the present and I was familiar with Calm, so I gave it a try.
Although I couldn’t focus 100%, it calmed my body and released the tension I had in the morning. (Before starting to work, I washed clothes and cooked breakfast and lunch, so it was already a busy morning for me).
I found myself being more focused on work, and I noticed I wasn’t wandering as much. I finished the task I set for the day and ended the working hour with reading a book.
I look forward to doing this every day for the next 7 days and seeing how much change I can see in myself. The next step would be a month!
The Reason
Life has been quite a roller coaster since October last year, and a major change happened towards the end of the year. Too many things are happening, and since many are significant — I’ve been feeling overwhelmed for some time now.
I am acknowledging the fact that life is supposed to be dynamic, and shit happens. But hey, knowing it and controlling my feelings are two different things. Therefore, I need to practice this — I’ve done some meditation in the past, and nothing but good comes out of it. So why not do this and share the journey with you?☺️
Distraction is not a failure
To have our mind distracted during the session is okay, whether its internally – because we thought of something in the past or what might’ve happened in the future – or something outside – like when I forgot to plugged my laptop’s charger on the third day.
At first, I felt annoyed for not plugging in the charger. But quickly, I realized that it was okay. I can go back to my session, and I don’t have to do it perfectly — I just have to finish it.
Stick with consistency
By the fourth day, YouTube had already recommended the video I use for meditation on the homepage. I’m still using the same video and planning to do so until the end of the week. I can see myself looking forward to this session. I feel immediate relief and calm in my body and mind!
On the seventh day, I did the meditation at night just before my journaling session. What I noticed is that I got to release my tension that was built up during the day. Usually, I did the yoga nidra right before sleep, but to do one meditation session before my journaling time is great, too! — I guess, at this point, anytime of the day would be a good time for meditation, isn’t it?
Anyway, I will continue this 10-minute meditation for a whole month! Let’s see how this goes.
A good habit to add this year✨️
