I couldn’t stop laughing!
GreenBeanRedBean – GBRB is a reality show produced by Na PD, one of the most prolific producers in South Korea. It shows the dynamic of the 4 best friends: Ki Bang, Kwang Soo, Kim Woo Bin, and Kyungsoo. I honestly, I’m just here for Kyungsoo initially, plus the idea of farming is really appealing to me! hahaha – Apparently, it was Kyungsoo’s idea cause that’s his dream.
Even from the initial discussion, they are hilarious! Their dynamic, especially with Kwangsoo’s wittiness and his comedic comments – it’s all perfect! Kim Woo Bin with his charismatic aura and his logical mind, Ki Bang with his laid back approach, and lastly, Kyungsoo with his determination, yet others find it cute in many ways since he’s the maknae of the group.
The low budget reflects the limitations of camera availability and minimal editing, which actually makes it even funnier and adds its own charm. You know, just like The Office and its editing style. Not to mention, with the sometimes smart-sarcastic comment added in the editing by the writer-nim: I love it!
I watched it back in 2023 on the Viu application, but now it’s available on YouTube in this channel.
Here are some highlights I love from the first episode.
The Watermelon Seed Game
Since there were only 2 thick mattresses and 2 thin ones in the inn, they decided to play a game to decide who got the thick ones for sleep. The staff gave them watermelon as a night snack, which then turned into game tools. They have to spit out the seed onto their face! Hahahaha Kyungsoo managed to do that easily – even more than one! It’s def a skill, not merely luck hahaha. His success was then followed by Ki Bang with a bit of dramatic moves.
Who pays for what: stopwatch game edition
The four of them have this system to decide who will pay for a meal, or anything, when they are together. So instead of fighting it like most asian ppl do, they do this every time.
They use the phone’s stopwatch feature and press stop twice, then multiply the 2 numbers they get at the end. The lowest has to pay. This is actually such a fun way to make quick decisions! hahaha
Kyungsoo caught the Rattlesnake
As always, Kwangsoo took things too seriously with his comment when he spotted a snack in front of the neighbor’s house. Although, I was also puzzled by how calm Kyungsoo picked up the snake. Rattlesnakes are dangerous because they are venomous.
Second Episode: a little less confused with farming
Kyungsoo’s Idea
On the second day. 30 to 40 minutes after they started working, they’re already tired hahaha, but there are still large areas that haven’t been turned into furrows. So Kyungsoo made a suggestion to make it into a circle and plant some flowers instead of making it like the rest, which will require more work. Of course, the others are pleased by that idea!
Another idea from him is to install the CCTV, so that they can monitor the growth of the plants, especially because they feel like the perilla will grow fast (the plant from the seedlings instead of from the seed).
Planting the Watermelon Seeds that they use for the game
On top of the perilla seedlings that they’ve planted, they collected the watermelon seeds from the previous night and planted them as well. Honestly, I didn’t think much of this one the first time I watched it, but it gave a pleasant surprise at the end!
When Kyungsoo asked to taste the young radish seed
Genuinely wondering what goes on in his mind. But maybe, since he loves cooking, it makes him curious about the taste of the seed – moreover, since it looks appetizing lol.
This is what I mean by the writer’s comment in the editing. It’s like representing our mind somehow. Hahaha.
At the end of day 2, Kwangsoo said that if the plants are dead, they should gather them all and hold a funeral. Lol. This is the type of genius comment that comes out of him!
Their excitement at seeing their field after their last visit truly translates through the screen! Genuinely also happy that the plants are thriving despite the heavy rain.
And as I said earlier…
After Kyungsoo pointed that out, the other 3 came running with excitement! And since they are not sure whether that is actually the watermelon plant or just weeds, Kyungsoo search the ‘Watermelon sprout’ picture, and yet once again! Hahahah they were so happy that it was indeed the watermelon! They’re getting mad at Na PD because he accidentally stepped on one of the watermelon sprout🤣🤣
In general, I also love how Kyungsoo is giving big brain energy throughout the episodes with his ideas on the plastic mulch application, the watering DIY from the bottles and the plastic bag before they bought the watering jug.
Really enjoy watching these guys navigate life as farmers! Didn’t think I would still be laughing this much on my rewatch; that’s why I think I need to pour this out on my blog. This is not the typical content I post, but I think, moving forward, I would love to write more about my interests!
