Jember for First-Timers: Discovering Urban Places to Visit

I got the chance to visit Jember for the first time! I like the overall vibes the city has and also the food was not disappointing!

And I was not necessarily went there for holiday, but one of my uni friends invited me to her wedding day and couldn’t be more happy to be part of her new chapter in life!

So if you have some time to kill in Jember – or if you want to visit Jember here’s some of the places I went to. Mostly I just use online transportation but most of the time I prefer walking around and explore small alleys.

Pecel Lodeh Walisongo

Atas saran seorang teman asli Jember, sarapan pertamaku jatuh kepada Pecel Lodeh Walisongo. Selain karena travelku tiba di Jember dini hari (I went there from Bali so it took around 7-8 hours to get there), also I’m always down for some pecel for breakfast! Lidah jawa timur memang tidak bisa dipungkiri. Apalagi habis spending the last month in Bali.

Lokasi pecelnya di Jalan Sultan Agung, tepatnya di depan gang kecil diantara toko-toko. Berdasarkan informasi google maps, tempatnya mulai buka pukul 06.00.

Aku memesan nasi pecel lodeh lengkap dengan tambahan telur dadar dan telur puyuh tusuk (you can tell that I’m an egg lovers). Udara pagi yang cukup dingin–compared to Surabaya ofc–membawaku pesan teh manis hangat. Perfect combo. It was such a great breakfast, although I must say it was quite A LOT to eat in the morning haha. But I took my time to finish.

Pertokoan di sekitar masih tutup (also the fact that was weekend)
Etalase makanan, still full- looking good!

Setelah aku menyelesaikan sarapanku aku berencana mampir ke alun-alun kota, tapi rupanya sedang direvitalisasi, so here’s me posing in front of it:

Just want to mention this parachute pant from UNIQLO is really comfy! I wore it all night in the travel from Bali to Jember and then again while walking. Definitely will be my go-to pants.

I still have a lot of time to kill, so the next destination is a fool proof that it’ll always open and I can spend as long as I want: church. Plus it was just like 8 minutes walks from the alun-alun. I have never considered myself a religious person, but I like spending time at church. Sort of meditation moment for me, time to wind down from the hectic world — especially in the adoration room.

Sedikit plot twist. After I spend about a half hour in the adoration room, I went inside the main building ofthe church and find myself joining mass with students. From kindergarten to elementary. I sat at the back row and actually join the mass until the end. Hahahaha. Actually it was kinda fun cause the choir was all student and it reminds me of my childhood.

Setelah selesai misa, aku melanjutkan perjalanan ke arah jalan R.A Kartini menuju jalan Trunojoyo (bear in mind that this is mostly walking trip). Although I understand that this might not interesting to most people tho. Hahaha

Berhenti di toko buku Togamas, lantainya menarik
Toko roti lawas, Nyoba roti kejunya jadi cemilan sambil jalan
Berhenti ketika ketemu kucing! Hahaha typical Vero

Toko Roti Wina

This was also suggested by my friend. To calm down the heat, I ate ice cream!

Hahaha. I tried in the original place. Oh, I actually went here with my friends cause they have arrived in Jember by train.

It was delicious no comment! 🙂

Gudeg Pecel Luminto

Ayamnya lembut sekali, and for some reasons pecel makan sama gudeg juga enak-enak aja!

Seafood Cak Sis

This is also another recommendation from my friend. And since I love seafood here I am. I was actually walking from my hotel to the place! Tempatnya ini sudah ada 1 cabang, but my friend make sure that I have to go to the one near alun-alun.

Aku pesan kepiting asam manis, seporsi nasi, dan segelas es jeruk. Mau bilang maruk tapi juga abis hahaha.

Jalan Sultan Agung

The next morning, I don’t really know what to eat for breakfast so I decided to just eat nasi campur across from my hotel. It was okay. Enough for me to start the day.

Bakwan Eddy, Gajah Mada

And for lunch, I stopped by Bakwan Eddy and spend the rest of my remaining time in Jember in a cafe to do some work.

Pesen yang porsi komplit. KEKENYANGAN maksimal. Hahaha. Enak!
After doing some work, straight to the train station.

I was so glad that I got the chance to unlock a new city in 2024! Since traveling was not the main purpose of the visit, I focus more on the places in the city center area — with of course mostly foods. But other than that, I really enjoyed walking in Jember.

Apa ada yang sudah pernah ke Jember? What can you recommend me to visit next time?
