Jin Solo Debut on Coldplay’s Concert

Who would’ve thought Jin would make his solo debut at Estadio River Plate Stadium in Argentina? I don’t think Jin would’ve known that himself, well, life is full of mysteries, right?

With a shirt and tie combined with a gray vest, Jin looks at the audience with teary eyes. His jacket with a red checkered pattern completes his look — not to mention his long perm hair (don’t get me started on that XD).

His iconic pink microphone and earplug accompanied his first solo stage, singing “The Astronaut”. A long-awaited yet surprise performance for all of us, especially ARMY. It must be quite a challenge for him to fly across the ocean and perform without his members, but this is the moment for him, and I know that he will do anything to leave us with great memories before he’s join the army.

Chris’s Intro

About 6 months ago, one of their members called me up and he said “I have to leave the band in December for 2 years and join the army in Korea because that’s the rule there”, and he said, “I need a song that says goodbyes to everybody for a little while, that tells them that I love them”. Because like all bands, we need you. it’s you that really does everything. it’s you that’s the magic. and so, I said, “Okay, we’ll do a song together” and instead of being worried about it, I felt so excited about it, and so grateful for this relationship that we have with BTS. And then, this song arrived and I said, “this is one of our best songs! let’s give it to this gentleman.” and he’s flown all the way here from Korea. this is the last time we’ll see him for a couple of years. he has to go join the army. this is serious stuff and we hope it goes ok. but please, give the biggest and most wonderful welcome to our brother from our band of brothers. this is ‘the astronaut’ and this is jin. Let’s go!

BTS and Military Service

On 17th October 2022, Big Hit Music, through Weverse application announced their confirmation regarding BTS’s fulfillment to the military service. Me, myself, was not surprised, I mean since the last FESTA Dinner when they announce that they’ll be focusing more on solo projects, there’s no better explanation for that unless they already had plans to join the army (as in the military service, not us ARMY LOL).

As we know how much they love their country, there’ll be no way they would want to avoid to fulfill their duties even though so many parties were talking about their influence on Korea’s economic growth and income. From my point of view, BTS is also human beings, they’ve been ‘running’ for almost 10 years, tirelessly — therefore, it’s time to take a break, a long overdue break. It’s also a good thing for them to start their solo project, not that I didn’t love them as a group tho. It’s just I’m trying to put myself in their shoes (even though I know it’s impossible hahaha), but as Jin said on Young Ji Show, each member has been holding back their own desire for the sake of the group. They must have a lot of ideas and things they’d wanted to try. Plus, we get to see each unique style and color of them!

On his LIVE, he said that he was planning to go to the military service after the Permission to Dance Concert, but the member convince him to do the last concert (Yet To Come in Busan) together, he did this as respect for ARMY. Also, the way they read all those comments asking when they will serve in the army, it seems just the right time never comes. BE Album should be the last one, but Dynamite said otherwise – even though they performed and were nominated at the Grammy’s.

I loveee how he refers to military service as the ‘Voldemort‘ – the one who must not be named! Hahaha, totally a potter head!

I believe we will be running together for a long, long time. Let them take this opportunity to rest, grow, and become their own self then they’ll come back stronger together!

About the song

On his LIVE, Jin said that the song was written around August and the recording process starts in September.

As Chris said, this song is definitely a message for all of us, ARMY, whom Jin loves so much. Just like the continuation of the collaboration song “My Universe”, he mentioned us here as his universe. The song was written by Coldplay, but Jin decided to go write Korean Lyrics for the verse (this is what I talking about how they love and respect their country so much!).

His sincereness on the chorus tho.. I love him so much! I do feel the way I’ve never felt before since I know BTS. Their songs, lyrics, and even personalities make me melt [insert melting emoji here]. I do really hope, in 2025, I will have the chance to watch them live, to be in the purple ocean with my ARMY family.

In the second verse, he tells how after we become his destination, we will always be together, even in darkness, he’ll always find a way to us. We become his light, we show the path to him. [brb crying in the corner]🥹😭 Thank you for this song, Kim Seokjin!

This song is a letter from Jin to us, to say goodbye for a while. And we totally will wait for you!

The MV

The scene starts with him staring at the UFO thing that looks broken because it crashed.

Then we’re taken to his room where he works on a crossword puzzle.

And there’s Chris Martin as a news anchor! At first, I didn’t realize it was him but I do suspect he will appear as a cameo, I thought it was the truck driver at first but they didn’t show his face.

In the next scene, we got him, still in his room but getting ready and use a suit, taking a helmet that later he gave to the girl with the bicycle- that we all believe it’s the representation of us, ARMY. Honestly, because he is so good-looking, every screen capture was a success! Hahahaha, our World Wide Handsome it is!

When ARMY found out about this hidden message ‘FOR ARMY’ in braille, I just cannot — [brb going back to cry] ALSO, the headline that written ‘THE PLANET IS COMING BACK SOON‘, indeed he will be away for a while.

He put the helmed on us, and pat our head, then he’s running.. [to the military??]

On the chorus, he’s all by himself, running. The road is still empty, but in the second verse, he’s going into the street with a lot of people, strangers.

I don’t know how to describe it, but his expression – it’s like empty(?) kinda wonders into the unknown.

I interpret this scene as a depiction of what will he become – an astronaut, who will be gone for a while to do the job in outer space, but he will surely go back to us.

In the second chorus, he’s away again but this time with the bicycle, getting closer to the UFO thingy place.

THIS SCENE, where he taught us to ride a bike, hold onto us until he’s sure that it’s okay to let go… for a while. [Another crying moment here, a big one]

Is this one means that he’s in outer space (aka military service) ?? For two years, without us, in the darkness, emptiness??

And then the scene going back and forth between him in the void and his memories with us. He’s longing for the time we spent together.

Once the UFO thing-y is working again..

He’s going back to us, to the earth.. As we know, in his song ‘Moon’ he refers to himself as the moon and we, ARMY, as the earth. We are his home. [Another crying moment…]

He’s smiling on his way back..

And smiling again once he’s home – because he knows that we will wait for him, ringing the bell.
